Karra Cheever, FNP, practices out of Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care, Family Medicine Associates – South Hamilton, Massachusetts. With nearly 20 years of practicing medicine, Karra has found that her passion lies with treating the whole patient, and she applies this to her chronic disease management focus. In addition to Family Medicine, Karra has a strong background in addiction medicine and is incredibly proud of the work that she has done to help those struggling with substance use disorder. Her medical focus has exposed her to patients of all ages, and she is comfortable treating patients of any age via telehealth or in person.
Karra’s education started at Salem State College, where she received her RN BSN in 2007. After a few years of practicing as a floor nurse, her drive to positively affect her patient’s well-being drove her to pursue a higher medical license. In 2011, she graduated from The University of Massachusetts Lowell with an MSN and FNP. From there, she immediately began working at Family Medicine in South Hamilton, where she is still practicing. As a lifelong learner, Karra believes in sharing her experiences and knowledge with the next generation of medical providers. She has taught at Endicott College in Beverly and her alma mater, Salem State College. In her continued effort to provide the best possible care for her patients, Karra has recently taken action to act as a Primary Care Physician. She is amongst the first FNPs to achieve this in Massachusetts and believes that opportunities like these will significantly increase patient’s access to care in the Commonwealth.
In March 2020, Karra contracted COVID-19 and was hospitalized due to complications from the disease. Upon her recovery, she volunteered to staff a hotel contracted through the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to provide the homeless population that had contracted COVID-19 within the area a safe place to isolate and recover. Karra worked with a tremendous team of providers for six months to help these patients rest and recover.
When Karra is not caring for her patients, she enjoys spending time with her family. She and her husband live on the North Shore and enjoy all the adventures accompanying that. She can often be found paddleboarding, enjoying a beach, dropping in at a local CrossFit Gym, and even, at times, fishing with her husband. In September of 2021, Karra and her husband welcomed three brothers from Colombia into their family. Karra is hugely proud of her family’s adoption journey and is happy to support patients who can relate to her Journey.
The best way to contact Karra is via email at karra.m.cheever@lahey.org. She will happily set up a time to have a conversation.
