Jennifer Andersen’s Vacation

My family and I spent an extended weekend in Rockland, Maine over Memorial Day. The weather was perfect, the scenery is incredible and this is the place to be if you love seafood. Here are a few photos from our trip:

Stacey Keough’s Vacations

I had 2 nice vacations in the spring. My friend and I visited her family in Myrtle Beach. We did a sunrise ferris wheel ride. I prefer to sleep later than the usual work day when I am on vacation but this ride was worth it. The sunrise on the beach was gorgeous.

My other trip was to Portland Maine with my husband. My son was invited to Florida with a friend during April vacation so we took the opportunity to go for some long walks in Maine. We did a nice walk on a river walk and along the coast. There are beautiful parks near Cape Elizabeth Light House.

Downtown Portland is a cool area – there are so many great restaurants and shops.

Maureen von Zweck’s Vacation

This Spring I went to Boothbay Harbor for a couple of days, and included a visit to the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden. It is a beautiful spot, I highly recommend. The Garden includes 6 giant trolls by the Danish sculptor Thomas Dambo.

Team Book, Movie, TV and Podcast Recommendations

Shogun on Hulu was amazing. It is about an English sailor shipwrecked in 17th Century feudal Japan as he becomes a pawn in the fight for control of Japan between rival samurai lords. Intrigue, action, romance…this show has it all. Highly recommend it. – Jennifer Andersen

One of the funniest shows I have ever watched is How I Met Your Mother and it’s back on Netflix.Meg Doyon

One of my favorite beach reads is On The Island by Tracey Graves. – Meg Doyon

I recently read Lessons in Chemistry and White Oleander. – Stacey Keough

Lessons in Chemistry was a great story about a woman who became a chemist in the 1960s. After she struggles with her career she makes a change to become the host of a cooking show. I watched the show (Apple TV) when I finished the book.

White Oleander the about a mom in jail and her daughter was in the foster system. The daughter has many struggles in different homes from her teenage years to young adulthood. I liked the book for the characters and their relationships. I hope to see this movie soon. –Stacey Keough

The Artful Dodger was a good series on Hulu. It is based on characters of Oliver Twist – the lead character escapes prison and becomes a good surgeon. His old partner in crime finds him and they have new adventures. – Stacey Keough

I recently read Nora Webster, an older novel (2014) by Colm Toibin. Set in Ireland in the mid 1950s, it is the story of a woman finding herself alone and out of step with her children, family and town, after she becomes a widow. Reminded me of Elizabeth Strout’s Olive Kittredge. – Maureen von Zweck

I love the Smartless PodCasts – Nicole DeVita
